The Winter Love Song Request Series.

Love songs by request: written to keep you warm through the winter.

6 Songs learnt, rehearsed and recorded in as many hours.

How it began:
It really started in 2020, during the first lockdowns, when I put a call out for 'love song cover requests' to help get people through the bleakness of lockdowns and spread some cheer on the internet - I did the same thing in 2022 to help people through the winter and then this year (2023), I decided to give myself the added challenge of writing songs FOR people, rather than learning and covering them.

How it worked:
I put a call out on Instagram for people to request a love song to help them through the winter, and people responded!
I then got to work...
Each song is named after and written for/about the person who requested it and my relationship with each person varies: some I've never met and others I know quite well. What was written is what came about from noticing a particular detail in the person- be it their smile, a dance, a story they once told me- or the way they work their mind.

This project was intended to exist as a small gift via the grid, but a kickstart grant from Regional Arts Victoria and Creative City Ballarat enabled a swift recording session to develop them further.
Unfortunately two extra requests were made once recording had begun or was completed - so they didn't make this edition, but perhaps there will be more in the future!

Artwork beautifully devised by Dani Marano with stimuli being the responses, of instagram followers, to the prompt: "What do you love/what does love mean to you?"

It's been a joy and a pleasure to create love songs with other people in mind. And I really hope you enjoy xxx
